# Russian Cursive Г г (Ge): How to Write It

Cursive г is a short x-height stroke with a rounded, rolling top, a little like a small Latin r or a squat 2. Capital Г is written like a handwritten Latin T. A hard "g" as in "go"; at the end of a word it sounds like "k".

## Sound

A hard "g" as in "go"; at the end of a word it sounds like "k".

## How to write cursive г, step by step

1.  Start slightly below the x-height with a small upward curl to the left.
2.  Roll over the top to the right in a rounded arch.
3.  Bring the stroke down at a slant to the baseline.
4.  End with a small hook to the right that leads into the next letter.

## The capital Г

Capital Г looks like a script Latin T: a wavy top bar written first, then a slanted stem from its middle down to the baseline, often ending with a small curl to the left.

## How it connects to other letters

The bottom hook joins naturally to the right. Before г, the connector simply runs up to the starting curl, so г rarely needs a pen lift.

## Letters it is confused with

-   г / capital Т: Capital Г and capital Т both look like a script T. Т has three legs hanging from its top bar; Г has a single stem.
    
-   г / ч: ч also has a short stroke with a hooked top, but it has a clear angle on the left like the numeral 4; г has a smooth rounded head.
