A useful work email makes the action easy to find: what you need, who should do it and by when. Russian business writing does not need to be ornate to be polite. This lesson gives you a small set of openings, requests and follow-ups you can adapt to a real task. Start with a short message about one file or deadline, then practise the reply so you can recognise whether the other person agreed or proposed a change.

## Put the request near the start

Прошу́ присла́ть… is a formal request to send something. Пришли́те, пожа́луйста… is also clear and polite in many routine exchanges. Name the file or information rather than referring vaguely to the thing discussed earlier. A subject line such as Сро́ки по прое́кту tells the reader what the message concerns. Your opening can be brief: Здра́вствуйте, Анна. Match the form of address to your established workplace relationship rather than copying an elaborate template into every email.

## Make the deadline unambiguous

До пя́тницы gives a deadline of Friday, but a precise time may still matter. Add the date, time and time zone when people work in different places. К како́му сро́ку? asks by when something is needed. If you cannot meet the proposed deadline, offer a concrete alternative: Смо́гу присла́ть в понеде́льник. Practise the difference between promising an action and merely describing a possibility. Your reader should not have to guess whether the file is actually coming.

## Refer to attachments and versions clearly

Во вложе́нии is the conventional phrase for something attached. Mention what the attachment contains and, when necessary, which version it is. Обновлённый фа́йл means the updated file. If you forgot an attachment, a short correction is enough: Извини́те, фа́йл во второ́м письме́. Avoid placing personal customer information into a study example. Invent neutral project names and dates so you can practise the structure without reproducing confidential work material in your vocabulary set.

## Follow up with a question the reader can answer

A reminder works better when it states the outstanding action. Подтверди́те, пожа́луйста, получе́ние asks the reader to confirm receipt, not to approve the content. For approval, use a specific question about the document or decision. Rehearse a three-message exchange: send a request, receive a different deadline, then confirm the revised plan. This builds the language of actual coordination instead of producing a perfectly worded first email that leaves you unable to handle the answer.

## Words and phrases to try

An accent marks the stressed vowel. Transliteration is a reading aid; ё carries its own stress.

## Questions about this situation

### Is Прошу́ more polite than пожа́луйста?

They serve different grammatical roles. Прошу́ introduces a request, while пожа́луйста makes many requests polite. Tone also depends on the whole message, the relationship and how reasonable the request is. A clear short sentence is often more useful than adding several formal expressions together.

### How do I ask someone to confirm receipt?

Подтверди́те, пожа́луйста, получе́ние is a direct polite request to acknowledge receiving something. It does not mean approval of its contents. If you need agreement with a proposal, ask that separately so a simple acknowledgement is not mistaken for a decision.

### How should I practise these phrases?

Choose one imaginary task and write a subject line, one request, a deadline and a closing. Then write a reply changing the deadline. Use fictional details and check that each message makes the next action obvious without relying on background information the reader does not have.
