Choose a missing task before choosing an alternative

Duolingo offers a free Russian course. Its writing systems article describes Russian letter and sound practice; check the current interface on your device. If your existing routine helps, keep it and add practice for a concrete gap, such as reading a sign, recalling personal vocabulary or writing a short message.

What the official sources establish

A published feature description tells you what a provider documents, not what every learner will achieve. We link official public pages below and date this comparison to 19 October 2026. Product interfaces, prices and course availability can change. Inspect the current version and language of instruction before committing.

What this comparison cannot establish

We did not conduct an independent learning outcome study and do not assign a universal proficiency ceiling to Duolingo. Letter recognition, listening, handwriting and free conversation are separate tasks. Test the task you need directly instead of treating a completed app exercise as proof of general fluency.

Try a small comparison yourself

Choose five words you expect to use, or a short sign you want to read. Practise them with your current tool, then try a relevant alternative. Compare which workflow you can repeat comfortably. A teacher or conversation partner can help with feedback that an automatic quiz cannot provide. You can do this without transferring every card or purchasing a long plan.

Alternatives by task

Anki documents custom flashcards, media and configurable reviews. Babbel lists Russian up to A1 with additional A2 topics. Busuu describes Russian lessons and community feedback. The source list lets you check these descriptions directly. For euro offers, inspect Babbel’s German pricing page and compare the whole billing period rather than an unverified headline monthly amount.

Where Daily Cyrillic fits

Our public alphabet trainer offers 33 letters, audio and a recognition quiz without an account. The account based app adds personal topic sets, examples, ElevenLabs AI audio, screenshot import, FSRS reviews and an AI tutor. It does not provide a full guided curriculum or assess handwriting. Generated examples can be wrong, so check unfamiliar material.

Daily Cyrillic’s founder wrote this article and we benefit if you choose our app. Current paid prices and creation allowances come from our server sourced pricing page. Start with the free trainer and a small task before deciding whether the app fits your routine.
