Book the service, not only a time
Хочу́ записа́ться на стри́жку means you would like to book a haircut. Add a day or ask when a time is available. Стри́жка is the haircut itself; укла́дка is styling. If you need both, say so before discussing the appointment length and price. Practise one phone exchange and one in-person version. In either case, repeat the date and time at the end so a misunderstood number does not remain hidden until you arrive.
Describe how much length should change
Подровня́ть ко́нчики asks for the ends to be trimmed. Поко́роче means shorter, but it does not specify by how much. Give a small measurement or show the desired length with a picture and confirm the plan together. Не сли́шком ко́ротко is useful, yet still subjective. A clear limit such as leaving a particular length is easier to interpret than hoping another person shares your idea of short. Ask before the cutting starts if the explanation is unclear.
Name the part you are discussing
Чёлка is the fringe, ви́ски the temples and заты́лок the back of the head. You may not need all three, but identifying a specific area helps a correction stay precise. Leave specialist techniques to a conversation you understand rather than guessing the term from a photograph. If you are asked about washing or styling, separate that choice from the haircut request. Мо́жно без укла́дки? asks whether you can skip styling, not whether you want no haircut at all.
Check one detail at a time
When shown a mirror, look at the area being discussed before asking for another change. Здесь немно́го коро́че, пожа́луйста makes a local request; сза́ди хорошо́ confirms that the back is fine. Rehearse with a neutral picture and describe three decisions: the overall length, one area to preserve and whether styling is needed. Then ask your practice partner to repeat the request back. If their version differs, clarify it before moving to the next detail.

An accent marks the stressed vowel. Transliteration is a reading aid; ё carries its own stress.
